“For Stress-Free Healthy Living”
Marshes, near-shore ocean bottoms, bays, coastal dune lakes, tidal flats, and estuaries draw us outdoors to enjoy the beautiful Florida coast. They are also components that make up the coastal floodplain of the City of Panama City. Our coastal beaches, dunes, banks, and tidal flats all play roles in protecting land from destructive coastal storms, such as hurricanes.
In Panama City, we are acutely aware of the risk of flooding to our homes and businesses that can cause major water damage. Daystar Cleaning is here to protect your home and family from all types of water damage. The team has compiled some tips to help your family if you are faced with flood conditions.
Unfortunately, in most situations, weather related flooding is not covered by your basic policy. Even someone that does not live near a body of water may be susceptible to heavy rainfall, water main breaks, or other sources of water damage that can be sources of flooding. Flood insurance must be purchased from a regular insurance agent through the National Flood Insurance Program (NFIP). Flood insurance rate maps help explain the zone (high, moderate, low risk) in which your property falls.
If you have flood insurance, call your insurance adjuster at the same time you call both Daystar Cleaning. The two organizations can work together to document as the project progresses. And there might be more support…Flood loss avoidance is a protective action you take to minimize flood damage and losses to your buildings and personal property before a flood occurs. National Flood Insurance Program policies will cover up to $1,000 in reasonable expenses incurred to protect your insured property, and up to $1,000 to move your insured property away from a flood or imminent danger of a flood.
Before entering, make sure it’s safe to re-enter the building. Wait for the Daystar technicians if you are unsure. As the team starts cleaning, report your flood loss to your insurance agent or company. Your flood insurance policy requires you to give prompt written notice of your loss. FEMA offers a lot of support. Find the toll-free phone number for your insurance company. Generally, your adjuster will contact you within 24-48 hours after you report your claim. However, depending on local conditions and the severity of flooding, it may take more time. When reporting the claim ask about getting an Advance Payment which will be deducted from the final claim payment.
Take photographs and videos of the damaged property, including items you plan to discard. Collect evidence of the damage to your home and possessions to support your repair estimate. Your adjuster will help you document your flood damage for the claim.
